Uniform Policy
At Mater Biscayne Academy we take pride in our students’ appearance. Students are expected to comply with our school’s uniform policy. Students who fail to meet the acceptable standard as specified in the uniform policy will receive a demerit and will be kept out of class until the student is in proper uniform. REPEAT OFFENDERS WILL BE SUBJECT TO FURTHER DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS.
The appearance of the members of the Mater Biscayne Academy family is of paramount importance to us as we believe that pride in our appearance is fundamental to good character development and success. Students are expected to come to school with the school uniform purchased from All Uniform Wear. All students must display cleanliness and be well-groomed before entering the building.
- All students (middle and high) are required to wear straight cut, full length gray pants with school’s MBA logo embroidered on the side pocket. Uniforms MUST be purchased at All Uniform Wear. These pants may NOT have cargo pockets, unusual tailoring and/or labels and must fit the student properly. Pants that are too big or too tight are not acceptable and will be deemed in violation of the uniform code. Pants must be worn at waist level. Loose (at the waist) or low pants (below the waist) will not be tolerated.
- Black belts must always be worn; these belts must be plain leather belts and fastened securely at waist level.
- The tops must be polo shirts bearing an embroidered Mater Biscayne Academy logo. Middle school student polos must be navy blue; high school student polos must be white. NO other shirt colors or styles are permitted. Shirts must be long enough to cover the complete torso area. There must be NO midriff skin showing. A plain white long-sleeved shirt for high school or navy-blue long-sleeved shirt for middle school may be worn underneath the school polo.
- School approved and designed jackets can be worn. Middle school students may wear a plain gray jacket with the school logo, and high school students may wear a plain navy-blue jacket with the school logo. NO HOODED SWEATERS OF ANY KIND ARE PERMITTED. Any student violating the above-mentioned policy will have their outerwear confiscated. Parents may pick up the confiscated item in the Front Office after school the following school day. MATER BISCAYNE ACADEMY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST, STOLEN, or CONFISCATED SWEATERS.
- Shoes must be solid black. Black laces must always be worn and fastened tightly. No other colors or stripes/logos may be on the shoes. All shoes must be closed front and back; as such, NO sandals, “slides,” slippers, boots, or Croc-like sling-back shoes are allowed at any time on campus.
- No buttons, tags, or labels may be worn on the school uniform unless approved by the administration.
- Facial piercings, hoops larger than a dime, and gauge type earrings may not be worn at any time.
- Students may not have any visible body piercings or tattoos, apart from a single pair of earrings.
- Hair may NOT BE dyed or highlighted with UNNATURAL colors, worn unusually, or maintained in unacceptable condition, and may not interfere with the educational process. Hair may be maintained with clips or soft hair bands only. Ribbons must be school colors. “Mohawks”, “Frohawks”, or fade designs of any kind are NOT permitted. All facial hair must be properly groomed and neatly kept. At the discretion of the administration, students may be sent home whose hair is deemed unacceptable.
- Headgear (hats, scarves, beanies, bandanas, etc.) is forbidden on school property except for religious purposes.
- All uniforms must be clean and pressed. Good grooming of hair, skin, and fingernails is expected.
- Student ID cards MUST always be displayed. These ID cards must be worn on Mater Biscayne Academy lanyards. ID cards are considered part of the uniform and therefore are to be worn throughout the duration of the school day.
- Students are limited to one bookbag at a time. Rolling bookbags are NOT allowed except for medical necessities (medical note is required).
- Inclement Weather Policy: If the temperature decreases below 60 degrees, appropriate winter attire will be accepted at the discretion of the school’s administration. Upon entering the school building, the uniform policy MUST be followed.
Jean Days
Students who participate in the school designated Jean Days will be allowed to wear black or blue jeans and the school polo shirt, the current school year’s spirit T-shirt, and club or class shirts. They may also wear tennis shoes of their choice (so long as they are conducive to physical education activities). The following is NOT permitted on Jean Days:
- Jeans with rips, tears, or holes of any kind.
- Jeggings, skinny jeans, cargo pants, or corduroy pants.
Uniform Hall Sweeps
Random uniform hall sweeps will be conducted throughout the school year. Any student in improper uniform will, at minimum, be issued a demerit and be kept out of class until the student is in proper uniform.
Important Note for SCIENCE CLASSES:
Many brands of hair styling products contain highly flammable chemicals, even when they are dry. It is advised that these should not be worn. Additionally, it is recommended that students purchase a plain apron for use in these classes during their time in school to protect their clothes from damage during lab work. Mater Biscayne Academy cannot be held responsible for damage to students’ person or property if they do not follow the safety guidelines above and those advised in their classrooms.
