Uniform Policy
The appearance of the members of the Mater Academy family is of paramount importance to us as we believe that proper grooming is fundamental to good character development and success.
Official School uniforms must be worn every day. Students who arrive at school without proper uniform may be referred to the administration and may not return to class until in proper uniform. Students with repeated violations of this policy will be referred to the administration/Discipline Review Committee.
Please Note: Violation of the following uniform policy will lead to disciplinary action.
Chronic offenders may be subject to suspension and/or Saturday and evening school.
All Students:
- All students are required to wear straight cut, full length khaki pants for middle
school, and khaki or navy blue for high school. These pants may NOT have cargo
pockets, unusual tailoring and/or labels and must fit the student properly. Pants
that are too big or too tight are not acceptable and will be deemed in violation
of the uniform code. Pants must be worn at waist level. Loose (at the waist) or low
pants (below the waist) will not be tolerated.
- Tops must be polo shirts bearing the Mater Academy logo and must be hunter
green or white for the middle school, and navy blue or white for the high
school. Alternatively, a ¾ zip sweater, bearing the Mater Academy logo, may
also be worn. No other shirt colors or styles are permitted. Shirts must be long
enough to cover the complete torso area. There must be NO skin showing. A plain
white, long-sleeved shirt may be worn underneath the school polo.
- School approved and designed sweaters can be worn. Sweaters will be sold at
the Mater Store. They must be hunter green or navy blue. NO HOODED SWEATERS
OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED. Any student violating the above-mentioned policy
will have their outerwear confiscated. Parents MUST pick up the confiscated item
in the Front Office after school the following school day. MATER ACADEMY IS NOT
RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST, STOLEN, or CONFISCATED SWEATERS.
- Shoes must be black/white combo or brown/white combo. Matching laces must
be worn and fastened tightly. No other colors or stripes/logos may be on the
shoes. All shoes must be closed front and back, therefore NO sandals, “slides,”
slippers, boots, or Croc-like sling-back shoes are allowed at any time on campus.
- No buttons, tags, or labels may be worn on the school uniform unless approved
by the administration.
- Due to safety concerns, facial piercings and gauge type earrings may NOTbe
worn at any time.
- Students may not have any visible body piercings or tattoos.
- Hair may NOT BEdyed or highlighted with UNNATURAL colors, worn unusually, or
maintained in unacceptable condition, and may not interfere with the
educational process. Hair may be maintained with clips, bobbles or soft hair
bands only. Ribbons must be school colors. “Mohawks”, “Frohawks”, or fade
designs of any kind are NOT permitted. All facial hair must be properly groomed
and neatly kept. At the discretion of the Administration, students may be sent
home whose hair is deemed unacceptable.
- Headgear (hats, scarves, beanies, bandanas, etc.) is forbidden on school
property.
10.All uniforms must be clean and pressed. Good grooming of hair, skin, and
fingernails is expected.
11.Student ID cards must be accessible at all times. All student IDs will include the
following information on the back:

12.Inclement Weather Policy: If the temperature decreases below 60 degrees,
appropriate winter attire will be accepted at the discretion of the school’s
administration. Upon entering the school building, the uniform policy MUST be
followed.
13.Designated Jean Days: Students who participate in the school designated jean
days will be allowed to wear BLUE colored jeans without rips or holes and with a
school-approved shirt. NO other colored jeans are allowed on these days (SEE
JEAN DAY FLYER ON WEBSITE)
Important Note for SCIENCE CLASSES:
Many brands of hair styling products contain highly flammable chemicals, even when
they are dry. It is advised that these should not be worn. Additionally, it is recommended that students purchase a plain apron for use in these classes during their time in school to protect their clothes from damage during lab work. The school cannot be held
responsible for damage to students’ person or property if they do not follow the safety guidelines above and those advised in their classrooms.
